"Workshop 1 involved the team meeting for the first time; working out who everyone was and what the overall aims of the project were, an exercise made easier by meeting up in a brewery at an airport. We transferred to a hotel at the heart of the Hallertau hop farming area and then moved on to the best beer restaurant in Nuremberg, via various state-of-the art hop industry centres of course.
From knowing all that we each needed to know about hops for our various roles, it was necessary to up-scale each team member's knowledge about the ‘how and the what’ of the hop preparation business. This included some of the real-life issues the hop trade grapples with on a day-to-day, year to year basis, to enable better forward thinking.
It will be interesting to see how much of the feedback from the brainstorming at the end of the trip will get revisited at Workshop 2, which will be focussed more on the art of the possible. A process that began as a learning exercise ended with some churning of ideas, the only gripes being about having better chances to taste the practical examples of what was being described in theory."

Workshop 2 came and went, and although it was very successful it was unfortunately overshadowed by COVID-19. More information will be coming soon!
